As consultants, we know non profits make our communities better. So our vision is that they are all well-run.
But non profits are surprisingly complex. And they lack resources.
Our mission is to provide leading edge products and services that help non profits do the best job possible.
That starts with strategic planning.
We tap into the knowledge and experience of everyone connected to non profits - those you serve, your employees, volunteers, Boards of Directors and community partners. And because we are all about inclusion, we work hard to ensure everyone's voice is heard.
When all this comes together, you get a great plan. And a high level of commitment to implementing it too.
Beyond strategic planning we offer Board training, bylaw and policy development plus reviews and studies.
Whatever your challenge, and whether you're an Executive Director, a Board Member, or someone else committed to non profits, CMCS can help.
CMCS is also the home of Tom Little's BIG Ideas. Tom's BIG Ideas are key resources for anyone working in the field. Tom shares his BIG ideas in his free weekly newsletter, free booklets and in his full-length book for volunteer boards (not free but not expensive either).
Create-Motivate-Change-Sustain: that's the process we advocate for, hence our name CMCS. Create a new vision for your organization, motivate your Board and employees to support it, introduce the needed changes, then ensure your vision is sustained.
Helping you make your communities better... that's us, that's CMCS.
Tom Little is experience personified. He has been President of CMCS Consulting Services since 2001, working alongside his colleague Nancy Collins.
He facilitates planning, provides training, writes books, publishes a newsletter and provides radio commentary on non-profit issues.
Tom has spent his career working for, and with, non-profit organizations. That exposure, first as an executive director and then consultant, has given him many insights into how they operate.
Away from work, Tom bikes and heads to the gym. A goalie in his younger days, Tom was lucky enough to play on 3 national championship hockey teams while earning a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Toronto.
In his spare time, he likes to learn more about the Universe and its origins, in part because apparently the Universe is even bigger and older than he is.
Nancy Collins has been in the non-profit field for over 20 years.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Wilfrid Laurier University then worked in the private sector.
Joining Tom at the Centre for Management of Community Services in 1995, Nancy focused on research, publications and developing resources.
Since forming CMCS Consulting Services with Tom in 2001, Nancy’s priorities have been strategic planning, Board training and creating custom resources.
In her spare time Nancy is also a goalie, playing in women's hockey leagues in Durham Region east of Toronto. When summer comes, it's slo-pitch time.
A fan of the Maple Leafs all her life, their recent resurgence means she no longer asks for forgiveness. Although she does think a second round playoff win would be nice.
